Getting Started: Gamma Correction

If you take away only one concept from this entire tutorial, let it be an understanding of how to adjust "Gamma" and bring out the best in your Wallpaper images.

You don't have to understand how Gamma Correction works to improve how your images look on your monitor.

Many times, there are details in an image that appear to be lost in the light, or hidden in the shadows. By decreasing or increasing the "Gamma," you can bring these details back into view.

Of course, Gamma Correction cannot put in details that weren't in the original digital image, or have been lost in the editing process. But applying Gamma Correction can make your images look their best on your monitor!

There are many quality programs available for image manipulation. This tutorial focuses on a free utility program that can, among other things, quickly and easily adjust the image gamma to compliment your system. This program is called "Irfanview." It is recommended that you download and install Irfanview to follow along with this tutorial.
