Matting & Framing

Prints are available unmatted and unframed. However, matting is important to the final look of your print. The color of the mat can totally change how a print appears.
Generally, Pierson Prints look best with neutral mats, shades and tones of beige and gray. These mats blend well with the subtle colors of the watercolor prints.
It is best to take the print, as shipped in the protective bag with foam core backing, with you to pick out the mat. Try different colors and you will discover that the print totally changes—different areas stand out.
In some cases, print sizes are approximately 7 x 10, rather than 8 x 10. This is to avoid excessive cropping and loss of the integrity of the original photograph. When matting these images, the inner opening should be cut only 1/8 inch smaller on all edges than the actual dimensions of the printed area (in other words, approximately 6 3/4 x 9 3/4). Again, this will increase the amount of image that remains in view.
Although some print sizes have been adjusted to better fit standard mats, the artist recommends always measuring exactly and following the 1/8 inch all around suggestion to achieve the very best results.
Finding the perfect mat and frame will make your print even more of a treasure, to enjoy for many years.
